How DSL works?
MBL's DSL takes existing voice (copper) cables which connect your premises to the PTCL exchange and turns them into a high-speed digital link.
A DSL router or modem is installed at your premises connected through a POTS (Plain Old Telephony System) splitter to your Ethernet hub or USB port of your PC. Once installed, the DSL router/modem provides continuous connection to the Internet and use of the telephone/fax at the same time.

How long does it take to install DSL?
If your premises is coming under our current coverage area (see coverage map) then a typical DSL installation may take up to 7 working days. However, in most of the cases MBL’s Technical team is capable to restrict lead time for service activation at customer premises to 2/3 working days.
How fast will my connection be?
Due to the nature of the telephone system infrastructure, there may be instances where a location cannot receive DSL services up to the speed contracted for.
Throughout the installation process, your business will have the option of refusing DSL service if the initial speed quote cannot be reached, or if in the course of DSL installation it is discovered that DSL service cannot be delivered to your location without incurring additional installation charges.

What phone line shall I use for DSL?
MBL's DSL requires the existence of a 'twisted pair' copper phone line.
What should I have first?
For the successful delivery and installation of MBL's DSL services, your business should possess the following:
- A working Network Interface Card (NIC) in each workstation (and in some cases a LAN switch/hub, depending on your LAN configuration and size.)
- The ability to perform network support for your LAN or workstation, or a professional networking technician to configure your system(s).
- An understanding that a completed and signed contract for MBL-DSL service may be voided only if, in the course of installing the service, it is discovered that MBL cannot deliver up to the requested level of DSL service you contracted for and/or additional installation fees would be incurred in order to receive MBL's DSL service. Once additional work is agreed to and performed, fees become nonrefundable.
Is there any reason my DSL line won't be installed?
Unfortunately there might be a chance that we may not be able to serve DSL to you because of any of the reasons mentioned below:
- Distance of your premises is greater than 5Kms from your local PTCL exchange,
quality of your phone line is poor and cannot be improved despite making best efforts
or MBL has not launched its services in the area of your residence
Will I definitely receive the speed that I ordered?
There is a chance that your line may only support a slower speed than you ordered due to several factors such as:
- The length and gauge of line servicing your home or business or the use of digital carriers between your business and the local PTCL exchange.
- If we can not provide the speed requested, we will contact you to determine if you want to proceed with the slower speed.
What is the make of hardware recommended by MBL?
MBL has tested its services with the following hardware:

MBL Direct Debit Facility
What is Direct Debit?
Direct Debit is a bill payment facility that enables DSL customers to pay their monthly bills automatically. Customer signs an authorization agreement with the service provider (MBL) to avail the said service facility and authorize to debit his/her credit card on receipt of the monthly service bill followed by intimation via SMS or email.
What is the cost of Direct Debit facility?
Direct Debit facility is a value added service for all MBL customers. It is absolutely FREE! That’s correct and there are no hidden costs involved in this service.
Who can avail Direct Debit payment service?
All customers who have VISA or MASTER credit cards can avail Direct Debit payment facility with MBL DSL services.
What are the formalities involved in activating Direct Debit payment service?
To activate direct debit payment service customer has to sign an service agreement form with MBL. The form can be downloaded from out website or can be collected from your nearest MBL office. The filled form must be sent at the following address;

Thereafter, the necessary arrangements would be made to enable this service by MBL Billing Department.
What documentation is required to signup for Direct Debit payment service?
- Properly filled and signed Direct Debit payment service application form.
- Clear photocopy of NIC (both sides)
- Clear photocopy of credit card (Only front side)
- Clear photocopy of last credit card statement or incase of new cardholder, card approval letter as a billing document.
Online Payment Option for MCB customers
In order to provide value and convenience to our customers, MBL has collaborated with MCB Bank limited to facilitate MBL-MCB joint customers by allowing them to pay DSL/FTTU bills via MCB virtual banking option. To be eligible for the facility, all DSL/FTTU customers must possess an account at any of MCB branch.
Once MBL-MCB joint customers will activate MCB Virtual Banking option, they can simply transfer designated bill amount in MBL's account. Once done with the online transaction, customers will be provided with a unique Reference number by the system. Customers can also keep track of their online transaction using that Reference number. MBL after acknowledgement of customer payment will credit customer account and deliver them with a payment receipt.

Payment Due Date
- In case of home users no invoice is sent as the nature of the account is prepaid and require customer to pay the monthly charges on account expiry.
- For corporate users a DSL invoice will be produced each month and sent at customer given address via TCS before 5th day of every month. Corporate customer must pay their bills before 10th of every month to clear their outstanding dues and use the DSL services.

What content filtering service does MBL provide?
We provide an online filtering of already collected blacklisted URL’s in the following categories.
- Adult - Sites containing adult material such as swearing, dedicated to sexuality and possibly including adult material
- Chat - Sites with chat rooms etc
- Drugs - Drug related sites
- Hacking and Warez- Hacking/cracking information and sites with illegal pirate software
Why have you blocked my web page?
We have not blocked your web page. If you mean "Why have you blacklisted my own web site or page?" then please send an email at safeweb@dsl.net.pk for necessary correction of the website.
Why have you blacklisted websites of type X, Y or Z?
The service is more than just a blacklist. The Safe Web does not only contain sites that are considered 'bad' but it also contains many other categories that can be used as white or grey lists. Being listed does not infer that the site is 'bad' - these are just categorized lists of sites. Most likely the predefined list may contain some sites which are grey or white and can be removed for open access. To report a grey or white URL site(s) please send an email at safeweb@dsl.net.pk for necessary correction.
Will I get software for this service after activation?
No, we do not offer any software after service activation as this service is used to block the customers to login to download the blacklist. We rely on honest users to not abuse our service.

How do you screen incoming addition or removal requests?
They are reviewed by a human and categorized from a liberal western perspective. This service at the moment is TEST PHASE so URL add request is not possible but removal of a site is possible.
What steps do you take to discover new sites?
We use active automatic listing as well as passive human listing. What this means is we use a script to automatically download sites from various free listings as well as the human-maintained dmoz.org site. We also check incoming change requests by hand along with customer.
Naturally I want to protect my children, but should I feel guilty spying on them?
The Internet is NOT a safe place for children to venture without supervision. Unless you can sit with them and supervise them while using the Internet, you need to have some strong controls in place.
